GREEN SANCTUARY TOWN HALL MEETING 10/24/07

IDEAS FOR GROWING OUR GREENNESS

IDEAS

GS TEAM’S REVIEW, ACTION TO BE TAKEN, REQUEST FOR HELP

Track our energy usage, let people know and compete with other congregations

The GS team has plans to track our energy usage but feel competing with other congregations would be too complicated.

Stepping Up Green was recommended by Julie Draper.  She had a home audit done.

Judy Miller has contacted Lauren McEwen of Stepping Up Green to try to schedule a talk.  See www.steppingupgreen.com for info about having  your own personal audit.

Adopt a Community supported agricultural cooperatives (CSA’s) was recommended by Jack Reynolds.  Jennifer Whitten also expressed interest.

Judy M to ask Jack and Jennifer if they can provide information on what they are and put a list together of local CSA’s.

Composting 101

Ask Neill DePoali to do a workshop.

Preserving food

Carol Reynolds has volunteered to do this.

Sit closer at church services to be warmer and have more of a sense of community

This will be put in the newsletter, perhaps could be announced by worship associates during services.

Put helpful links on the South Church website such as www.changeyourmargins.com

Roddy Cole will contact Julie Frank and Will Clarkson about putting links on the church’s website.  Can anyone else help with updating the website?  Ideas for websites to be included can be sent to members of the GS Team.

Sell compact fluorescent light bulbs again.

There was a lot of administrative work to selling the light bulbs.  We recommend that you go to www.nhsaves.org to order light bulbs.  This site can be put in the newsletter.

Have a specific collection for energy efficient light bulbs to donate to local organizations.

Diane Woods will speak to the Outreach Associates and Community Connections about this.

Advertise Alternative Gift Giving Fair on Dec. 2 at coffee hour and from 12 – 2.

This is open to the public.  Tell your friends.  There will be an article in the Herald.

Make a bike rack from recycled materials was suggested by Meghan Rice

The GS Team thinks this is a great idea.  It needs volunteer designer(s) and workers.

Make a donation as a congregation, for example, let’s buy trees.

The GS Team thinks this should be postponed to another year.

Christmas cards – how to reduce output to each other?

Make a large holiday card and post it in Fellowship Hall where people can sign it.  Judy M. will ask Nancy Hoop if she can do this.  Roddy will ask Sandra to see if the children can do a card too.

Sing outside

This will be referred to the Worship Associates.

Sunrise service

This will be referred to the Worship Associates.

Have a workday at Karnan House including a pot luck.  Brought up by Janet Polasky

Roddy Cole will contact Jeannie Daniels, chair of the Building Committee

Increase attention to the GS Environmental Audit

A copy of the Environmental Audit and instructions on how to view it on the church website have been posted on the Ministry for Earth Bulletin Board.

Expand recycling and composting efforts

We could have a donation bowl for a new composter.  We have one but need two to have effective composting.  We have to check on the guidelines for having a donation.  Can Grounds Committee select and install it?

Use water filters instead of bottled water

This can be promoted in the newsletter.

Have an ethanol workshop

Use gray water for the garden

Get a rain barrel?  Does anyone else have more specific ideas about this?
