Through music, we connect to our innermost selves. We connect to one another, to community, and we touch a spirit that is larger than ourselves. At South Church, we connect to music through singing and listening, through instrumental and vocal music, and through chant. The music we share is as diverse as our community, encompassing both the sacred and the secular, and ranging from classical to jazz, folk, and contemporary. Through music, we express our joy and sorrow, our hope and gratitude.
There are a number of ways to be involved in the musical life of our community:
- Join the South Church Choir. The South Church Choir, under the leadership of Music Director Joanne Connolly, shares its gifts at three to four services each program year. Participation in the Choir requires a commitment of approximately six weeks, culminating in the offering of two or more prepared pieces in Sunday services. Rehearsals take place on Tuesday evenings.
- Sing with South Church Folk. South Church folk is a wonderful group of South Church members and friends, who practice and play traditional and contemporary folk music, and share their gifts in worship on the fourth Sunday of the month.
