CURRENT PROGRAM OFFERINGS

At South Church we encourage each other to enrich our lives by connecting in a variety of different ways, especially while we can't be together. Here are some of the ongoing programs and activities available to our adult members while we socially distance.

Do you have a program you would like to offer at South Church? Perhaps you would like to lead a discussion group, or offer a workshop of some kind? If so, the Learning Associates want to know! We invite you to fill out this form, and we will be in touch! https://forms.gle/4VwWZr7WbYk3R77PA

In the meantime, there is an open meditation group being held Wednesday evenings from 7p-8:30p at the Portsmouth Buddhist Center (in-person or on Zoom). There are also meditation groups held at the Portsmouth Public Library on Wednesday afternoons from 12:15-1pm in the Levenson room.

Morning Poems is a weekly spiritual practice for grounding and connection through Poetry. This offering is Thursday mornings at 7:30am on Zoom, and you can join anytime during the year. To join, click here or join on Zoom with meeting ID 8592 070 9438. Contact Kirsten at kirsten@southchurch-uu.org for more information. Morning Poems will return on Thursday, September 14 at 7:30am!

Drop-In Small Group Ministry (new in Fall 2023!) will be meeting after Worship on the first Sunday of the month with Rev. Ellen and/or Kirsten Hunter. This offering is similar in format to that of a covenant group, with a topic for the day and a short reading followed by opportunities for each participant to share a reflection and practice active listening for others as they share. A great way to meet new people, and share in a deep conversation without a monthly commitment.

The South Church Spiritual Book Group is meeting virtually! They meet the 2nd Wednesday of the month and ALL are invited to participate. Contact Nancy Lambert at bookgroup@southchurch-uu.org to get the Zoom link to join the discussion. Click HERE for more info.

The Aging with Grace group is a participatory group for people to explore our joys and concerns in the aging process. A safe environment where we laugh and celebrate as well as share topics of concern. This group meets on the second Thursday of each month from September-May at 10am the Portsmouth Public Library where parking and accessibility are easy.  Find out more information about Aging with Grace by clicking HERE.

The Shawl Ministry meets the third Sunday of the month at 11:10 am in the Emerson Room, but patterns are available if you would like to knit or crochet at home! Shawl patterns can be found HERE . If you have any questions or if you have completed a shawl, reach out to Jan Marston at jlmarston@comcast.net  to arrange for a pick up!

The Men’s Breakfast Group meets early on the second Wednesday morning of every month at 8am at Cafe Espresso. A reminder email is sent to the group every month. For more information or to join the mailing list, contact Ken Schoman at ayuh.ken@gmail.com

The Women's Breakfast Group meets at 8:30am on the first Wednesday of the month at The Golden Egg on Mirona Road (NEW location begins April 2024!) Please RSVP to Laurie Bilby at womensgroup@southchurch-uu.org if you are planning on attending so that reservations can be made.

The South Church Cancer Support Group meets on the 2nd Sunday of each month after Worship in the Emerson Room. If you are a cancer patient, survivor or caretaker, or if you would like to offer emotional or physical support to a patient, please join us. Contact Anne Mackin at annemackin2@gmail.com for more information.

Chant From Different Traditions has been gathering since 2010 to explore the chants and short songs of different spiritual traditions and how we might integrate those into our own spiritual journeys and practices.  All are welcome to join us online on the first Sunday of the month on the Portico (if weather allows) or on the balcony at 9:00am. Contact Cathy Okhuysen at cathomusic@gmail.com for the link.

Covenant Groups (formerly 'Small Group Ministry') are a meaningful way for both new and long-term South Church congregants to build relationship and deepen spiritually. You join a small group that meets twice monthly from mid-October through May.  There is an opportunity in January to revisit your commitment.  Sign ups begin each year in September for this deeply connective program. Email: covenantgroups@southchurch-uu.org for more information, or visit southchurchcovenantgroup.org to register!   Please click here for more information.

Living our Values an 8-month faith development course inviting participants to learn, discuss and discover personal meaning in the proposed revisions to Article 2 of the UUA bylaws. This offering is open to anyone, including people who have previously participated in Wellspring programs. Similar to small group ministry, 'Living our Values' will focus on intimacy, (building community and deepening relationships), and ultimacy (the opportunity for deeper spiritual exploration and search for meaning.) Participation includes bi-monthly, 2 hour gatherings, as well as engagement with written material in between sessions. Wednesday evenings, facilitated by Kirsten Hunter. For more info or to register, email Kirsten@southchurch-uu.org. Enrollment ended October 10.
